- Firmasite Base Customize Not Showing Anything
I haven’t been into the Customize menu item in a while but when I opened it today to check something I discovered that nothing is displaying. No items to customize, the page appears blank with the exception of “Save and Publish”, ‘you are customizing “site name” “and “collapse.” The small number of custom CSS that I added here previously is still working. So I am confused why the page will not display.
I opened Firebug and noted that the HTML is there and the CSS rules are applied (as far as Firebug is concerned), but it is not displaying. I also noted that the tab says “Customize: Loading…”
I know there have been a lot of recent updates for many plugins so I would be clueless as to which one this happened after. If you can give me a head start on how to troubleshoot this without completely disabling the site I would appreciate it!
Thank you, Patrice
(Why was I in customize? I saw the snow on the site, which I love, and could not remember where in your theme it was set up, I only remember setting it last year. I wanted to find the setting for my own curiosity.)
There is no snow effect in theme. Its probably a plugin. I am sorry but i cant predict what plugin have a problem so you have to disable all plugins and check customizer if its working.
I am discovering it is far more complicated than I thought. I cannot deactivate your theme to try another one. I don’t want to delete the theme, but it seems that it has taken over. I activated 2015 and it supposedly is the “Current Theme” but when I try to customize it, the url shows:
And it locks up on a white screen trying to load and finally goes to a blank customize page again.
How can I truly deactivate your theme to try another?
thank you, Matoca
Wow.. You describe theme as a terrorist that taken over your site 😛
First of all, theme shouldnt “taken over” your site in any situation. I am really curious for what is causing this but its not theme. Our theme’s main core gets reviewed with every version by WordPress.Org theme review team who have no relation with us.
If your “current theme” is 2015 theme, there is no way that FirmaSite theme would be in the customizer.. Are you sure you are not using a bookmark? you are clicking to your Customize link in your admin menu?
Btw, if you go directly that link you are linking:
Of course it will show FirmaSite because you are trying to see how is theme is looking for you even when its not active. You should directly go customizer like this link:
Did you try to disable plugins? I see some weird plugins like TooltipProPlus26July2014..
Sorry, perhaps I didn’t describe this well. My normal theme is Firmasite Base. When I go to “customize” the page is blank, there is nothing. You asked me to troubleshoot this and I started by trying to change to a different theme to see if the problem followed. If it didn’t then I would active Firmasite Base and then try deactivating one plugin at a time to see if any of them were causing the problem.
I tried to deactivate Firmasite Base and activate 2015. Eventually 2015 became the active theme, but it took hours for that to happen.
While 2015 theme was active (and Firmasite Base was inactive), I clicked on “Customize.” The link I posted is the link that WP theme 2015 was attempting to connect to: theme=firmasite. Customize was still trying to access Firmasite to customize it while 2015 was the active theme. I don’t understand how that is possible.
And again, the customize page was blank, nothing there to customize. This was while using 2015.
I activated Firmasite Base again and customize is still having the same problem.
See this screen snip, this is what I see when I try to customize FIRMASITE BASE:
Basically you even tried a different theme and your website still had problem.. But you are insisting that theme have problem rather then disabling plugins and check?
Sadly you have to disable all plugins and check customizer if its working. I think you can test it in less then 5minutes..
Btw, you are using latest version of FirmaSite Base right?
I have always been instructed by wordpress plugin developers to start by changing the theme to the basic current wp theme to see if the issue resolves. So that is where I started. It wasn’t a random choice, but one based on experience with other plugin developer’s suggested approach.
I have started the process of deactivating 45 plugins, one at a time, and thought I would just do it alphabetically. However, the first one on the list is your plugin ACF – FirmaSite Custom Fields and it won’t deactivate. I have tried several times. Do you have any suggestions how to deactivate this plugin?
Thank you, Patrice
Uhm.. If you are using that one, that means you are still using old theme version. Lets update theme first of all. You can download new version and just upload to your website with FTP or you can use our new update system:
Upload this plugin to your site and activate it. After you activated it, you will see notification that asking you theme license. You can learn your license code from shop account page in our website. Just enter this license code and save. You will see an update notification for FirmaSite Base theme in ~5-10minutes.
After you update your theme, you will see some new plugin updates, after you completed those, there will be some disabled plugins like “ACF – FirmaSite Custom Fields” and “Advanced Custom Fields”. You can safely remove those plugins and firmasite-update plugin too.
Lets do this update first because i am not sure if old version of theme is working with WordPress 4.1 or not.
Just tried to install. Got this error:
Unpacking the package…
Installing the theme…
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
Theme install failed.
First time i see this error.. Maybe this is happening because you deleted head of style.css file?
Try to add these lines in head of style.css:
/* Theme Name: FirmaSite Base Text Domain: firmasite-base Version: 1.0.4 Theme URI: http://theme.firmasite.com/ Description: Responsive Multi-Purpose Theme Framework Author: FirmaSite Author URI: http://firmasite.com/ Tags: buddypress,post-formats,custom-background,custom-colors,custom-menu,editor-style,featured-images,front-page-post-form,full-width-template,translation-ready,theme-options,threaded-comments,fixed-layout,fluid-layout,responsive-layout,one-column,two-columns,left-sidebar,right-sidebar,black,blue,gray,green,orange,purple,red,silver ,white, yellow, dark, light License: GPLv3 or later License URI: license.txt */
This is what is in there currently. It is pretty much the same as you have above but with some extra at the bottom. Do you want me to use what you have posted above?

The file you downloaded above is a plugin. Are you trying to upload it as a theme? You should upload it from plugin section. Please check this first before doing any other step.
I thought that over when I was doing this and wasn’t sure if it was theme or plugin. I (wrongly) chose theme.
I’ve now installed this zip successfully as a plugin. But it was indicated it was awaiting activation. I entered the only key I found in my account and it says that it is not a valid key.
“Invalid API License Key. Login to your My Account page to find a valid API License Key.”
I’m sorry this is so much trouble but I do appreciate your help. I don’t know where else to look for my key other than in my account on your site. I don’t want to post the key I used here publicly.
Actually i used your code in sporsite.com for trying (its my test site). As you can see in your panel, its activated and sporsite.com website shows under license code. Dont forget to write that e-mail too. And check blanks in start and end of license code. There should be no blanks
